Jonathon Ewers 1918 The death occurred at Eumungerie on Sunday last of an old and highly respected resident of Dubbo and district, in the person of Jonathan Ewers, at the ripe old age of 78 years. Deceased, prior to going to Eumungerie, had resided in Dubbo for 38 years. About four years ago he removed to Eumungerie, where he resided up to the time of his death. He leaves a large family of 10 sons and two daughters, who are all residents of this district, to mourn his loss. Mr. Herb. Ewers, storekeeper, of Newtown, is one of the sons. The body was brought to Dubbo on Monday, and laid to rest in the Methodist portion of the local cemetery, beside the remains of his wife, who predeceased him some 14 years. The Rev. C. W. Leavers read the burial service, and Mr. J. R. Tighe carried out the funeral arrangements. The Ewers family have the condolence of a large number of Dubbo and district residents in their bereavement. Leonard Herbert Edwards 1935 Struck on the head by the limb of a tree, Leonard Herbert Edwards (15), of Eumungerie, suffered fatal injuries. Yesterday morning, the boy, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edwards, was watching some other boys fell a tree when a limb broke and struck him on the head, which was cut. The lad returned home and his mother bathed his wound. Although he ate his dinner Edwards complained of violent headaches, which became so bad that his mother decided to take him to Dubbo on rail motor. When the tram reached Dubbo at 5.15p.m., the lad, who was conscious, was conveyed by the Ambulance to Dr. F. J. McCarthy. He was admitted to the District Hospital, where he died at 8.30. He is believed to have had a fractured skull. The dead boy, whose father is the mailman at Eumungerie, was employed for some time at the Eumungerie post office. The funeral, which was carried out by C. J. Shakespeare & Son, took place to the Church of England portion of the ,Dubbo cemetery yesterday afternoon when, in the absence of Rev. C. W. Leavers, the burial service was conducted by the Rev. J. Wadkin. The funeral was attended by a large crowd of Eumungerie residents. Among the floral tributes were wreaths from the Eumungerie Parents and Citizens' Association, Eumungerie Social Club, and Mrs. Lee (post office). Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved parents.
