William Payne 1948
The death of Mr. William Payne, which occurred in the Temora District Hospital on Saturday morning removes the last link with the original pioneering family of that name which settled there over 80 years ago. His parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Payne settled in the Quandry district where they took up land from Burrowa in the 1860 's. William Payne jnr., was born at Quandary 73 years ago and was the youngest of a family of five (three sons and two daughters). He was married at "Fair field," Bectric, in 1907 to Miss Ethel H. Wilson, and on the death of his father at Tara, 43 years ago, carried on the property up till he left to live in Sydney 15 years later. After 15 years in the city, during which he kept in active touch with his district farm by returning to assist, at the busy seasonal periods, he decided to again take up active rural activities and purchased a property at Eumungerie ("Wainui"). He lived there for ten years and returned to Temora two years ago to spend the eventide of his life in the surroundings of his boy-hood.

William Pettersson 1913
Quite a gloom was cast over the town on Sunday afternoon, when the sad news was circulated that William Petterson, aged 12 year, was drowned in a tank about a mile from his home. It appears that he and his two brothers, with another boy went to a tank, and Will went in for a swim. He soon got beyond his depth. His mates saw that he was in trouble, but could not help him, as none of them could swim. The eldest brother ran home and told his father, who hurried to the spot. He waded in and found the body in about five feet of water. After bringing the body out on the bank, the father and Mr. Bridgeman endeavoured to restore animation, but without success. The police in Gilgandra were informed, but the coroner decided that an enquiry was unnecessary. The funeral took place on Monday, and, as a mark of respect, the pupils of the Eumungerie Public School marched in front of the funeral right through the township. The remains were laid to rest in the Presbyterian portion of the Gilgandra cemetery. For the bereaved relatives, heartfelt sympathy is expressed on all sides.
